CAF CONFED CUP: Plateau United manage 2-1 home victory over USM Alger

Nigerian Champions, Plateau United, managed a 2-1 Victory over their Algerian Visitors, USM Alger in the CAF Confederation Cup, First leg final quantification round tie decided at the Agege Stadium, Lagos on Saturday.

Plateau United who dropped from CAF Champions league to Confederation cup after losing on 3-4 aggregate to the Tunisian outfit, Etohel De Sahel on the continental engagement, took the lead against USM Alger just 17minutes into the game through King Osanga’s header from set pieces.

Plateau United who adopted Agege Stadium in Lagos for their home games maintained the lone goal advantage going into the break.

The Algerians came out stronger in the second half with pressure which forced goal Keeper, Dele Ajiboye to clear the ball on the advantage of the visitors.

The Algerians took the chance and Yaya converted it to level up for the visitors in the 52 Minutes of the encounter.

Plateau United, top striker, Tosin Omoyele was substituted in the 70th Minutes for Emman James who sealed up the victory for his side just three Minutes after coming on.

Plateau Unite will take the 2-1 victory to Algeria for the return leg in weeks time.

Reacting to his side victory during the post match interview, the coach of Plateau United, Kennedy Boboye was optimistic and believed that his side till have chances of qualifying over USM Alger despite the slim win.
” it was tough and the Algerians gave us a good fight today but we shall approach the second leg differently and hope not to disappoint our fans.” He said

Also reacting on his side’s loss, USM Alger gaffer, Halidu believed the hot weather affected his side from playing their normal game.

” the sun was too hot for my players , so we hope to finish the job in Algeria and qualify further to the next stage ”

CAF Confederation cup action continues on Sunday as MFM fc host their MaFirstVisitors,Djoliba fc at the same Agege Stadium.
