The National Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) has elected Mrs Bilkisu Abdul as its new national president.

Abdul defeated Mr Abiola Lawal at the election held at Hill Station Hotel in Jos, Plateau State late on Monday that was attended by several delegates from across the country.

Abdul in her acceptance speech expressed her appreciation to all members for keeping the flag of NATOP flying over the years.

She promised to take the association to greater heights by ensuring that she delivered on her promises which she made during the electioneering.

The new president also pledged to build on the existing cordial relationships that had been existing among NATOP members.

The immediate past president, Mr Nkereuwem Onung, congratulated the new national president on her victory and advised her to lead the association to its promised land.

“We members will give her our support and ensure that she has a successful and peaceful regime,” he said.

Onung said that NATOP had grown over the years and become a force to reckon with as far as the tourism sector is concerned in the country.

“Because of the rising profile and the quality of the tourism experts found in NATOP, its membership is now sought after by players in the industry.’’

He commended the members of NATOP for their solidarity and steadfastness which he said they had exhibited in the past years.

He also expressed his appreciation to Otunba Segun Runsewe, the Director-General (D-G) of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), for inaugurating NATOP in 2011 as the then D-G of NTDC.
