Ali Abdulhafeez makes history, emerges FUTA Best Graduating Student

A 21-year-old graduate of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA),  Akure Ali Abdulhafeez, has made history.


The young Muslim emerged as  the best graduating student of the university for the 2016/2017 academic session by recording a CGPA of 4.89.

“The secret to my success is Allah,”

Ali Abdulhafeez Semomhe who hails from Edo State says.
With this, and he consequently secured a First Class status in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The young graduate who was the cynosure of all eyes at the Convocation Ceremony of the university held in Akure attributed his academic success to the grace of God, determination and hard work.

Ali disclosed that he sacrificed many alluring things during his studentship in the university to ensure that he emerges the best among his colleagues.

In his speech at the ceremony, President Muhammadu Buhari who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC) said his administration was determined to develop the education sector.

 The president also emphasized that his administration will place priority on science and technology education for the advancement of the country.

Also speaking at the event, President, African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina who was honoured with a doctorate degree ( honorari causa) in Management by the university stressed the need for the Federal government to develop the agriculture sector.

He also urged university managements in the country to make staffs engage in research and innovational works in the agriculture sector, saying agriculture, ‘if well developed could solve the nation’s economic problem’.

Adesina also encouraged youths to go into farming for self independence and economic freedom, just as he enjoined governments to support the farmers. 

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Adebiyi Daramola had commended the federal government for rendering support to tertiary institutions in the country through various intervention funds.

While enumerating his achievements in office, Daramola said the university has emerged the best university of technology in the country.
